Project Title: Improving Health and Reducing Fuel Poverty: A Community-led Retrofit Approach for Homes in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
What were you doing before starting this PhD?
Before starting my PhD, I worked as an Environmental Consultant with expertise in air quality monitoring, sustainability, and public health. I was involved in projects focusing on indoor air quality and energy efficiency in collaboration with Loughborough University.
What motivated you to apply for this specific PhD project?
I have always been deeply passionate about sustainable energy and improving energy efficiency through practical and impactful research. I strongly believe that energy-efficient housing solutions can play a vital role in improving people’s quality of life, reducing fuel poverty, and supporting healthier living environments.
This PhD provides an excellent opportunity to combine my background in environmental sciences with innovative research that can deliver real-world benefits to communities. The project particularly interests me because it focuses on developing sustainable, community-led solutions that can create long-term social, environmental, and economic impact.
What difference do you hope to make in Leicester through this research?
I hope this research will contribute to improving the quality of life for people in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland by supporting healthier, more energy-efficient homes and helping to reduce issues related to cold, damp housing conditions.
What do you hope to be doing in 5 years’ time?
In five years’ time, I hope to have developed in-depth expertise in energy retrofit solutions and to be working professionally within the energy or sustainability sector, contributing to projects that improve housing quality, energy efficiency, and public health outcomes.
