Project Title: Exploring the Health and Social Impacts of Community-Based Walking Football
What were you doing before starting this PhD?
I did my undergraduate in Sport Psychology at Liverpool John Mores University, before moving back home to Nottingham to do my MRes Sport and Exercise Psychology at Nottingham Trent University. I had done psychology placement work at various sports teams, including Warrington Wolves. After my MRes I was just working in retail, at M&S.
What motivated you to apply for this specific PhD project?
My Mother, Nana and Grandad, as none of my household had even been to university, let a lone done a PhD. I am very passionate about helping others and giving back to my local community, and there is an opportunity here to make a positive change in people’s lives.
What difference do you hope to make in Nottingham through this research?
Research can help to reduce social isolation and loneliness in the communities that I’m working with, as well as improving physical and mental health. It can help to reduce social isolation and loneliness in the communities that I’m working with, as well as improving physical and mental health.
What do you hope to be doing in 5 years’ time?
I hope to have done something that has made people’s lives better. I also hope to be working in a role which allows me to continue making a positive change.
