Meet Kate Dawson

    Collaboratory Researcher Profiles

What were you doing before starting this PhD?

Recent previous roles involved project management in both the healthcare and academic sector, working at one point as a Consultant Pharmaicst implementing innovative solutions into practice at scale across the East Midlands. I have also worked in the NHS for over 20 years, either as a clinical pharmacist or senior manager.

What motivated you to apply for this specific PhD project?

I was excited to apply for this PhD research project due to my passion for improving health and well-being, and my strong belief in the power of social prescribing to enhance health outcomes.

The emphasis on green space activities in this project strongly resonates with me, as it combines my love of these activities, as well as a personal understanding of their health and well-being benefits. In addition, I wished to develop my knowledge and understanding of healthcare linguistics and messaging, as I feel effective communication is vital for driving engagement and participation in health interventions. I also wanted to gain transferable skills and insights that could be applied to other areas of healthcare, broadening the relevance and impact of this work across different health contexts.

What difference do you hope to make in Nottingham through this research?

Gain an understanding of what effective messaging is, to enable the uptake of green space activities by those who would benefit most.

What do you hope to be doing in 5 years’ time? (personally and/or professionally)

My long-term career aspirations are rooted in health practice and policy research, where I aim to deepen my passion for translational health research. This PhD offers the perfect opportunity to cultivate the skills and knowledge necessary to further my career in this field.
